Aalaap hails from a musical family. His father is a singer/music composer while his mother is a playback singer as was his late grandmother, Shri. Shantha P. Nair.
Starting his career as a singer, Aalaap decided to focus on playing the Bass Guitar. He has been a part of several commercial bands and recording sessions in Chennai, playing various genres of music ranging from Carnatic fusion to smooth jazz.
Currently a session artist, Aalaap plays the Electric Bass and Guitar for Movies, Ad Jingles and Live Shows. He has performed over 100 concerts all over India. He has recorded for famous music directors like Leslie Lewis, Harris Jayaraj, Mani Sharma, G.V.Prakash, Manikanth Kadri, Thaman, Isaac Thomas etc. His recording experience extends to other languages like Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.
He has also sung for several Christian and Hindu devotional albums.
He has collaborated with contemporary folk bands like ‘Oikyotaan’ to bring out new sounding in challenging genres like ‘Baul’ music. He is also part of a Smooth Jazz band named ‘Bluenote’ (visit www.jazzwave.org).
